Fort Lauderdale Preparatory School, Fort Lauderdale:
Fort Lauderdale Preparatory School is a family owned and operated educational corporation located in Fort Lauderdale in Broward County in the South Florida metropolitan area, and provides programmes for kindergarten through to high school students. While being a small school, FLP strives to provide each student with knowledge about the world and aid each one in acquiring the necessary skills to participate in the world in an independent and productive manner.
Preschool Program (Ages 3 and 4):
Fort Lauderdale Preparatory Schools’ Teaching and Learning Center helps pre-school youngsters to acquire a sense of security, self control, self awareness and the skills of self expression and social interaction. The primary developmental function of three and four year olds is socialization. We help these students adapt comfortably to cooperative play and develop the ability to learn to understand and to interact appropriately in a group setting.
All of our programs are based on the premise that children develop at different rates and that learning should be geared to accommodate these differences. These are the critical formative years when intelligence is developed and children learn through guided exploration, self discovery and sensory utilization.
Kindergarten Program:
Alhough our Kindergarten is academically oriented, it is relaxed and void of pressure. Children receive individualized instruction and progress in the first grade primer when ready. Science, Math, Social Studies and Spanish are included in the curriculum. We balance active and quiet activities such as art, music and story time within the curriculum.
Our kindergarteners are reading and doing math computation on a first-grade level or higher as a result of our low teacher-student ratio. Our phenomenal success is due to experience, caring teachers and a nurturing setting. Our preparatory environment paves the way for continued educational success.
Lower School Program:
Our Lower School is comprised of mixed-age groupings. We do this for several reasons:
Current research of peer tutoring and cooperative learning clearly supports that interactive learning between younger and older children (novices and experts) benefit all individuals both academically and socially.
We set goals for Lower School students on an individual basis. Learning activities include cooperative learning and individual projects. Through a variety of lessons, discussions, explanation and tests, students demonstrate their progress.
Middle School Program:
The goals of the program are to teach students to read with comprehension, write with clarity and compute with accuracy. Our program helps students understand the world around them, their own heritage and that of other cultures. Students are taught to discover the interconnected nature of the world. Critical thinking and the integration of ideas are encouraged.
Each of our middle schools students are treated as unique, important individuals with special combinations of talents, abilities and interests.
Upper School Program:
In today’s fast paced and complex society the preparation required for a successful future has become more and more demanding. Through a balanced comprehensive emphasis on intellectual, physical and social growth our Upper School Programs help students develop to their fullest potential.
The goal of this program is to prepare students for the best colleges and universities within reach of their individual abilities and help them grow into responsible contributing citizens throughout their lives. More than 98% of our graduates go on to achieve higher educational goals. Every student is expected to share in the responsibility for his or her own education, to think independently and logically, to express himself or herself effectively and to grow in awareness of self and others.
The school provides for co-curricula activities besides the regular academic instructional program. Activities such as athletics, fine arts workshops, SAT preparation, public speaking and debating contests, driver education classes, time management workshops, as well as college and career counseling are all provided as part of our efforts to develop the whole child.
