Academic Curriculum - Grades 9 to 12:
The immediate academic objective of students at Lakefield College School is university entrance. One hundred percent of last year's graduating class was accepted at university, and 80 percent were accepted by the university of their choice. University expectations of student achievement continue to rise. This is a product both of the increasing competition for university places and of the increasing breadth and complexity of knowledge which universities must impart to their students.
Graduation Requirements:
Lakefield's academic program follows the guidelines of the Ontario Ministry of Education as set out in its document Ontario Secondary Schools Grades 9 to 12. The School's curriculum and instruction is regularly reviewed by the Private School's inspection branch of the Ministry. Upon graduation from Lakefield, students receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.). The O.S.S.D. is an internationally recognized diploma.
All academic courses at Lakefield have been developed according to the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education. Each academic course (110 hours of instruction) represents one academic credit. Students must earn 30 academic credits to receive the O.S.S.D. To be eligible for university entrance, at least six of these credits must be grade twelve, university preparatory courses.
A total of 18 compulsory credits are required:
- 4 credits in English (1 per grade)
- 1 credit in French as a Second Language
- 3 credits in Mathematics (at least 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)
- 2 credits in Science
- 1 credit in Canadian History
- 1 credit in Canadian Geography
- 1 credit in the Arts
- 1 credit in Physical and Health Education
- 0.5 credit in Civics
- 0.5 credit in Career Studies
Plus:
- 1 additional credit in English, or a third language, or social sciences and the humanities, or Canadian and World Studies
- 1 additional credit in health and physical education, or the arts, or business studies
- 1 additional credit in science (Grade 11 or 12) or technological education (Grades 9 - 12)
