Located in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, Open Door Preschool offers infant, toddler and preschool programs for children of 14 months to 5 years. The school was founded in 1964 when a group of parents opened the first integrated non-sectarian non-profit preschool in Augusta. No child was turned away due to their ethnicity or religion. It was the only preschool with an ‘open door’ policy and was entirely administered by the parents. Today, after 45 years, Open Door Preschool continues to provide a nurturing environment for children.

Children learn best in a child-centered atmosphere of acceptance and love where they can progress successfully at their own pace. Teachers encourage free and spontane-ous play as well as guide more structured learning activities according to the individual needs and interests of each child.

The purpose of our program is to enhance the growth of each child by encouraging a positive self-image, independence from the home environment, and responsibility fro self, possessions and classroom materials. We teach acceptable forms of behavior and relationships with peers and adults.

We also teach respect for others, good communication and listening skills, and provide opportunities to improve gross and fine motor skills. Perhaps most importantly, we hope to foster creativity, curiosity about the world, and a love for learning through the acquisition of new thoughts, ideas, and concepts.
