Touch Typing - Lesson 1 - The Home Keys
Touch Typing: Learning to touch-type is one of the most valuable and frequently used skills you'll ever learn.
Lesson 1: To start, place both of your hands on the Keyboard. Your left hand should hover over the "ASDF" keys with your little finger on A and your index finger on F. Your right hand will hover over the "JKL;" keys with your little finger on; and your index finger on J. You will notice two bumps under your index fingers, this is to enable you to locate the home keys without having to look. Your left index finger also operates the G key and your right index finger operates the H key. The spacebar is operated by either of your thumbs. This is the most important positioning for your hands when touch typing, as each finger returns to this position after striking each key. You will learn to find every other key in relation to the home keys.
Finger Keys
Left Index - F,G
Left Middle - D
Left Ring - S
Left Little - A
Right Index - J,H
Right Middle- K

Before you begin typing, ensure you are sitting in the correct position. You back must be straight and both feet flat on the floor or pedestal. Your wrists are slightly raised and are not resting on your desk.
Now with your fingers on the home keys, type the following:
Left Hand (ASDF): aad fas da das aaf afd daf ssd fds sad aas ad fda af dda asf dsa ff saf dsf sass fa fads sa df adf ffs afs ffd ssa ads as fad ffa sd fs sads dd aa sf asd a sfd fd fsa dafs sfa
From now on you will be using both hands in all exercises. New keys will be introduced gradually, alongside what you have already learned:
Gradually Introducing the Right Hand Keys (JKL;): a as; as; dj salk fla aja fall als lsd all; da asks sf salsa lads slads slad fa al salks fads ads afls jal lass fad asks; flask jass al; all lad la flasks jall ad salads flak

Repeat each exercise at least three times, when you are confident you know these keys, move on to Lesson 2.
