Surrounded by extinct volcanoes and home to one third of New Zealand's population, Auckland is New Zealand's largest city as well as its gateway for tourism. It is a city of cultural diversity with a large Polynesian, Maori and Asian, as well as European, population. AUT has two campuses here, its City Campus located on Wellesley Street and the Akoranga Campus situated on the North Shore.

AUT's City Campus is conveniently located right in the heart of Auckland. Queen Street, the main street of Auckland, is a bustling area one minute's walk away making shopping or people-watching between lectures a distinct possibility! As well as shopping there are various restaurants and cafés to enjoy.

If you want to walk a little further the Auckland Viaduct is a beautiful spot to enjoy high quality restaurants and soak up the sun whilst taking in the view of Auckland harbour. Other attractions within walking distance include the Auckland Domain, an ideal place to picnic or study in the sun. The Auckland Museum is also located here and houses one of the world's finest Maori and Polynesian collections, as well as offering a great view over the city.

AUT's North Shore campus is located on Auckland's North Shore, just across the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The North Shore campus has a relaxed atmosphere and is situated close to some fabulous beaches and parks. Takapuna is 10 minutes drive away from the campus and has a popular beach, with fantastic views of the volcanic island of Rangitoto. Takapuna is also the ideal place to soak up the café culture, take in a movie or go shopping. Glenfield, about 5 minutes drive away, is also a good place to go shopping.

AUT runs two residential complexes offering accommodation to over 700 students. For those of you new to Auckland, these are an excellent living option, as they provide accommodation in close proximity to both campuses at affordable rates.

Wellesley Student Apartments (WSA) is situated only 3 minutes walk from Campus, and is close to Queen Street, entertainment & shopping. Wellesley Student Apartments provide group flatting style accommodation in a safe, supportive and modern environment. The accommodation is shared, fully furnished apartments and self-catered with each containing either 4 or 5 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen for self catering. The entrance lobby with reception desk to service tenants and visitors is located on the ground floor, as are shops and cafés situated onsite in the outdoor courtyard setting.

Akoranga Student Village is situated on the North Shore and directly across the road from the North Shore Campus. It is ideally suited for students studying at the North Shore campus. Accommodation is provided in 5 and 6 bedroom apartments in a safe, modern environment with attractive landscaping. Sports fields and gymnasium are nearby.

Homestay:
Homestays are where you stay with a host family and usually arranged for you by AUT. The host family will provide a separate fully furnished room with breakfast and dinner each weekday, and three meals on the weekends. Fresh linen is also provided and your laundry is done for you. Host families come from a variety of different cultural backgrounds and language groups and are all different. A homestay gives you the opportunity of experiencing life in a good NZ family home.

Students may also choose to live in private rented accommodation or in hostels.
