Why Learn Mandarin Chinese?
Mandarin Chinese, the national language of China, is spoken by approximately one-fourth of the world's population. It is a language rich in cultural tradition. It is a member of the Sino-Tibetan language family and is quite different from the Indo-European languages. Mandarin Chinese is a tonal language. Moreover, it utilizes a script that is both ancient and revealing. Because of these differences, it offers a unique challenge to the language learner. At Washington Academy of Languages, our goal is to enable the student both to meet this challenge and to be able to communicate effectively in Chinese.
Intensive Mandarin Chinese Programs:
The basic approach of our program is to emphasize the use of practical spoken Chinese. The program prepares the student with the skills needed to function in China. By focusing on practical language usage, students are able to actively participate in situations which they can expect to encounter in their travels.

Washington Academy of Languages, Seattle
Courses / Programs
Located in downtown Seattle near the beautiful waterfront, WAL offers Spanish programs for all levels. Courses emphasize the way Spanish is actually spoken and written. From the first day, participants begin speaking and listening at natural speeds. The most common pronunciations of Spanish from Mexico and South America are used. Participants will, in addition, be able to accommodate the pronunciation differences in Spain, as well as those from Argentina and Venezuela.
Our graduates are able to communicate easily with native Spanish speakers at the level of grammar and vocabulary they have attained.

Learn French in Seattle, founded in 1998 by Veronique Savoye, is a French tutoring service offering French Language instruction in Woodinville, WA, and several other locations on Seattle's Eastside. After an initial evaluation session, I will recommend a customized program based on your experience, your goals, and your learning style. We will not focus so much on levels (beginner, intermediate, or advanced). Rather, we will focus in two areas: on communicating verbally, and in writing; and on understanding, and being understood. We will use a variety of activities and materials to avoid routine, and will cover topics you are interested in.

Dante Alighieri Society of Washington
Courses / Programs
In 1984, the Italian Language Program was successfully initiated in Seattle under the directorship of the local chapter of the Dante Alighieri Society. Since that year, the Italian Language Program of the Dante Alighieri Society of Washington has grown as the ideal place to learn Italian Language and Culture in Seattle. Our classes are held on the campus of Seattle University. However, the Dante Alighieri Society - Italian Language Program is a self-sustaining autonomous program independent of Seattle University.
Fall, Winter, and Spring quarter, four levels of Italian: introductory conversation, elementary, intermediate, and advanced. Each course begins in October and lasts thirty weeks (three quarters) except the introductory conversation course which is 10 weeks long and repeats. Classes meet twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
UESL Program, Central Washington University

The University English as a Second Language (UESL) Program at Central Washington University (CWU) in Ellensburg, Washington, is located in the center of Washington State in the Northwestern US. Central Washington University is a public university with 8,000 students. Popular majors include business, accounting, education and music. Conditional undergraduate admission is offered and the UESL recommendation is accepted in place of the TOEFL. Interesting courses, opportunities to visit undergraduate classes, and experienced, professional teachers (all have master's degrees in teaching English). Ellensburg is a safe, friendly university town with many outdoor recreational activities just two hours from Seattle. Ellensburg has the Jazz in the Valley Festival and the Kittitas County Rodeo and Fair each year.
Intensive English classes to prepare international students for academic work at US universities/colleges and for business or education at home. In addition to the core skills classes, the program has many interesting elective courses: TOEFL Preparation, Volunteering in America, Business, Film-making, Travel USA, Computers, and Creative Writing. Outside-class activities include Conversation Partners/Groups, Welcome Parties, field trips, International Cooking Club, and the ESL Newspaper.
