Within the Conservatory of Music, The Colburn School offers four different curricula, created to accommodate students in the advanced stages of theirmusical training. By design there is no hierarchy of programs: one is not better than another; audition requirements and standards remain the same for all programs. Applicants should apply to the program that best fitstheir needs at the time of application.

Bachelor of Music
The Bachelor of Music (BM) degree program is a four-year undergraduate curriculum focusing on the development of highly skilled performing musicians. As an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, The Colburn School offers a curriculum that includes a rigorous academic program requiring approximately 130 semester units for completion.

Performance Diploma
The Performance Diploma (PD) is a four-year curriculum designed for the student who has not yet completed a baccalaureate degree, but whose activities require more flexibility than the Bachelor of Music program. The PD requires only two years of music theory; there is no requirement for humanities and music history. Approximately 74 semester units are required for completion. Students whose English skills are inadequate for BM study may be admitted to the PD program initially. This allows thestudent to improve his or her English skills while continuing musical studies, before moving into the BM program.

Artist's Diploma
The Artist's Diploma (AD) program focuses on the development of highlyskilled performing musicians. The program is a minimum of two years and amaximum of four years in length, with a requirement of four recitals.Students must have completed a baccalaureate degree prior to beginningstudies at The Colburn School.

Professional Studies Certificate
The Professional Studies Certificate (PSC) program emphasizes professional and pre-professional activities outside of The Colburn School. It is designed for students seeking intensive training in their applied area, often with specific goals in mind (such as preparation for competitions orauditions). Students are not required to have completed a baccalaureate degree, although the majority of students in this program will have done so. 24 semester units are required for completion.

All four programs within the Conservatory of Music are fully endowed; tuition, room, and board costs for each student are paid for by the endowment.
