Situated just a few blocks from the world famous Ipanema Beach and Copacabana, Caminhos Language Centre is the largest and most exciting Portuguese school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We offer high quality Portuguese courses for adults and children in a relaxed and fun environment. Our Brazilian teachers are carefully selected university graduates. Our methodology is based on the communicative approach and we offer unique course material. Our teachers also use experiences of daily life to teach Portuguese lessons, helping students grasp the Brazilian street talk known as 'gíria', important when learning to navigate the streets of Rio.
- Caminhos offers a diverse and enriching learning curriculum using the communicative approach. The communicative approach - or ‘communicative language teaching’ (CLT) - is an approach to Portuguese language teaching that places emphasis on interaction.
- Caminhos steps away from the traditional one-way communication from teacher to student. Teachers will speak the Portuguese language as much as possible during the entire course.
- Besides the fact that research has proven that this method has better results, it is simply more fun than one-way communication.

Caminhos Social Program:
Caminhos was founded with the objective to support Brazilian children in need. Over the years, the school has invested more than half of its profits into social welfare causes.
We recently launched ‘Mais Caminhos’ for Brazilian children. Children come to the school from nearby ‘favelas’ to learn and have fun.
The school has also employed Davi a former resident of the Casa do Caminho orphanage. At Caminhos you learn Portuguese while your fee supports underprivileged children! We also offer short and long term volunteer opportunities

Most of our teachers and staff work voluntarily to support the organization.
