World Peace Academy - Swiss Centre for Peace Studies, Basel:
Based in the heart of Basel, Switzerland, on the French-Swiss border, The World Peace Academy, in cooperation with the Advanced Study Center at the University of Basel, offers a 9 month full-time Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Peace and Conflict Transformation every year from March-November. Students can begin the programme either in March, June or September each year. The MAS programme is accredited by the University of Basel, which issues the diploma. It is also possible to obtain an Advanced Certificate in Peace and Conflict Transformation for 12 weeks of courses. All courses on the MAS/Certificate are taught in English by leading specialists in their field from around the world.

The WPA programme combines theory with practice, and is designed to:

- Provide the intellectual competence to analyze conflicts and their underlying causes.
- Provide practical skills in reconciliation, conflict transformation and peacebuilding.
- Consider all aspects of peace--not only military, but also structural and cultural components.

Certification:
Students who complete 9 months of on-site courses and write a thesis obtain a Master of Advanced Studies in Peace and Conflict Transformation issued by the University of Basel, worth 70 ECTS (ECTS = credits according to the European Credit Transfer System). One ECTS corresponds to about 30 hours of study (in class and self-study).

Students who complete a minimum of 12 weeks of selected courses obtain an Advanced Certificate in Peace and Conflict Transformation (minimum 18 ECTS), for which the University of Basel issues a Certificate of Attendance. It is also possible to take individual courses, lasting one week each.

This last module - which is a special feature of the WPA programme - emphasizes the development of such personal competencies as responsibility, empathy, creativity, commitment, and inner peace. The programme methodology includes lectures, seminars, exercises, group activities, excursions, self study, library research and writing papers.

Target Audience:

The WPA programme is addressed to students from around the world, from any discipline, interested in peace and conflict resolution, including: NGO and UN staff members, diplomats, government officials, international civil servants, teachers, journalists, social workers, lawyers, officers, psychologists, artists. A first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent) is required, or comparable professional experience.

Course Fees:
18,000 Swiss Francs for 9 months of tuition, including thesis supervision. For part-time students, costs are 300 Swiss Francs per ECTS. For students who require a room in the Student House, the cost is 520 Swiss Francs per month. Meals, health insurance and travel costs are extra.

When to apply:
WPA has a rolling admission policy. You can apply at any time before the beginning of a trimester (March, June, September). Those who need a Swiss visa are advised to apply at least 9 weeks in advance.

The University of Geneva's International Organizations MBA (IOMBA) is a unique MBA programme that prepares professionals for careers in the increasingly interconnected fields of international governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and companies that work with these institutions.
