NYIT School of Education:
New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) School of Education offers a range of Teacher and Administrator Education Degree & Certificate programs from our two main New York campuses (Old Westbury and Manhattan), and at several partnership sites in the New York metropolitan region. Today, it has grown to include preparatory and advanced professional study for P-12 teachers, school counselors, school building leaders, educational technologists and professional trainers. On-campus and online options are available.

We provide effective professional preparation and development programs that are career-oriented, integrate technology, support diversity, and connect with the real world through learner active instructional strategies. In addition to professional education, our purposes include the generation of field relevant research that extends the knowledge base and the provision of services to the community to inform practice.

Accreditation:
The School of Education at NYIT is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel. 

In the past five years, more than 1,000 teachers, counselors, supervisors, and principals in the New York metro area have received their training from the NYIT School of Education and are now serving students in public and private schools.

NYIT School of Education participates in the Troops To Teachers program. This program is designed to assist military personnel separating from service in the pursuit of a second career as a public school teacher. In providing public school districts the opportunity to engage and benefit from the skills, education and experience of a pool of mature, motivated, experienced and dedicated personnel, TTT also assists military personnel and others seeking careers in public education in their efforts to attain an appropriate New York State teaching certificate and employment in public schools throughout New York.

Troops to Teachers is a joint U.S. Department of Education and Department of Defense program that helps eligible military personnel begin a new career in teaching at public schools, where their skills, knowledge, and experience are most needed.
