Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)- on campus: The baccalaureate program of the University of North Dakota College of Nursing provides a sound background of liberal education, preparation in all basic areas of clinical nursing practice, and a solid foundation for graduate education. The graduate receives the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree and is eligible to take national board examinations (NCLEX) for registered nurse licensure (RN). UND Nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and are approved by the North Dakota State Board of Nursing. Since the College of Nursing strives to reflect current trends in the nursing profession, there may be on-going changes in the curriculum.
Baccalaureate Accelerated Curriculum (BAC-2) or Accelerated Program - Distance Education but students are also required to attend on campus: The "Baccalaureate Accelerated Curriculum" (BAC-2) is open only to students who already have a baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than nursing. The accelerated nursing curriculum is offered in four academic terms. The courses offered and number of credits earned are identical to the curriculum that basic students complete.
Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) to BSN Program - on campus: Licensed Practical Nurses may apply to the College of Nursing to work toward a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Admission to the College of Nursing is a two step process. Students first apply to the University of North Dakota and declare pre-nursing as their major. They are then assigned an advisor in the College of Nursing who advises them on the remaining requirements. Once all pre-nursing requirements are met, application is made to the College of Nursing. The deadline for applications is February 1st for Fall admission or July 1st for Spring admission. The Admissions Committee meets each semester. Points are given for a core course GPA, essay, and if the applicant has submitted a qualified application previously. The highest ranking students plus 4 RAIN students are admitted for each semester. A 2.5 overall and UND GPA is required to be placed in the eligible applicant pool. Applications are then ranked using points based on an essay, and GPA on the five core courses as listed below. Students are notified by mail as to whether or not they have been accepted.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - RN to BSN Option - online utilizing distance education technology: The RN/BSN Option is an upper division completion program designed for the Registered Nurse (RN) student who wishes to pursue a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The program requires a total of 129 credits which includes University of North Dakota requirements in general education and residency as well as College of Nursing upper division course requirements. Credits may be transferred from accredited colleges and universities. Awarding of credit for nursing courses is decided by the College of Nursing. The RN/BSN Option student is typically required to complete 30 credits of nursing course work from the UND College of Nursing.
