Photo of Human Ecology Degree Programs in MaineBachelor of Arts in Human Ecology:
College of the Atlantic has a number of degree requirements. The degree of Bachelor of Arts in Human Ecology is granted upon completion of thirty-six (36) credits and of two requirements bearing no credit. Eighteen of thirty-six credits must be earned at College of the Atlantic, and a minimum of six terms must be spent enrolled full- or part-time at COA. One of those six terms may be a COA Internship, but a minimum of five terms must be spent on campus.

All entering students must take:
- the human ecology core course
- a history course
- a writing course
- a quantitative reasoning course, and
- at least two courses from each of our three resource areas (environmental sciences, human studies, and arts and design)

There are also several degree requirements that must be fulfilled in addition to this coursework: community service, internship, human ecology essay, and final project.

Master of Philosophy Degree in Human Ecology:
College of the Atlantic's graduate program provides opportunities for a select group of advanced students to pursue cross-disciplinary scholarship and research in close association with a team of faculty mentors. Students earn the Master of Philosophy in Human Ecology. The choice to offer the M.Phil. rather than the more traditional M.A. or M.S. is a deliberate reflection of the college's emphasis on the value of a multi-disciplinary approach to learning. Students are expected to take the ancient meaning of philosophy literally — to succeed they must be true lovers of wisdom.
