Health Training Center offers a variety of allied healthcare programs to accommodate many of the needs of non-traditional students. Learn more about each of our programs below.

Medical Assistant Certificate
Students are instructed on the clinical skills needed to work in medical doctors’ offices, HMOs, clinics and at hospitals with in-patients and in exam rooms. Our Medical Assisting program is focused entirely on the clinical technical requirements and requires 4 classes. Our students are given the opportunity to become proficient in Phlebotomy, EKG and clinical medical assisting techniques. The U.S. Department of Labor reports the Medical Assisting employment is expected to grow by 29% from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations.

Demand will stem from physicians hiring more medical assistants to do routine administrative and clinical duties so that physicians can see more patients. Upon completion of the classroom academics, a 160 hour externship will be provided in a medical facility. Medical Assistants play an important role in many healthcare environments, including various positions in hospitals performing blood draws, EKGs, basic medical, lab and exam procedures, vital signs, injections, and patient clinical assessment.

Upon successful course and externship completion, students will have the opportunity to become a Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Our Program is pre-approved by The American Registry of Medical Assistants. Also, students may be prepared to take the National Certification exam to become a National Certified Medical Assistant through the National Center for Competency Testing.

In addition, because our Program provides comprehensive courses in Phlebotomy and EKG Techniques, students are instructed on skills necessary to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Center for Competency Testing. We proctor the exams several times a year at our classroom locations.

Patient Care Technician (PCT)
This is a career advancement program for a licensed CNA, HHA or EMT. Completion of this Certificate opens opportunities for superior employment. Our program consists of cross-training students in Phlebotomy and EKG techniques. The greatest number of job openings for Patient Care Technicians are in elder-care nursing facilities, general medical and surgical hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, and some larger private doctors’ offices. This program consists of three required classes.

Upon successful completion of the academic classes, students will be provided a 120 hour Phlebotomy externship. Graduates of this program may become Clinical Medical Assistants by completing one additional class and the MA externship. PCTs play a vital role in many healthcare environments, including various positions in hospitals performing EKGs, basic medical, lab and exam procedures, drawing blood, and providing basic patient care.

Upon successful course completion, students will be eligible to take the National Certification exam to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Center for Competency Testing. In addition, students will be eligible to take the National Certification exam to become a Certified Patient Care Technician through the National Center for Competency Testing. We proctor the exams several times a year at our classroom locations.

Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician
Our program consists of cross-training students in Phlebotomy and EKG techniques. The greatest number of job opportunities for Cardio-Phlebotomists are in general medical and surgical hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories and some larger private doctors’ offices. This program consists of three required classes.

Upon successful completion of the academic classes, students will be provided a 120 hour externship. Graduates of this program may become Clinical Medical Assistants by completing one additional class and the MA externship. Cardio-Phlebotomists assist in various positions in many healthcare environments, specifically performing EKGs and venipuncture blood draws.

Upon successful course completion, students will be eligible to sit for the National Certification exam to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Center for Competency Testing. We proctor the exams several times a year at our classroom locations.

Phlebotomy Technician Certificate

Upon successful course completion, a 120 hour Externship will be provided. Topics with instruction include: Venipuncture Procedures, Specimen Collection, Blood Collection, Quality Assurance, Body Systems, Infection Control, and Skin Puncture Techniques.

Upon successful course completion, students will be eligible to sit for the National Certification exam to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Center for Competency Testing. We proctor both exams several times a year at our classroom locations.

EKG Technician and CPR
The EKG Technician program gives training to students to work in hospitals, clinics, emergency and trauma centers, private physician’s offices, out-patient centers and extended nursing care facilities. The EKG Technician will be given training on how to operate and adjust EKG heart monitors and understand the results of the electrocardiograph (EKG) recording.

The EKG Technician program requires two classes. EKG can be taken in combination with Phlebotomy or as part of the Medical Assistant Certificate. Topics of instruction include: Heart Anatomy and Physiology – Holter Monitors – Interpreting and Reading EKG recordings – Diseases of the Heart – Introduction of EKG Monitors – Communicating with Physicians.
