Language is our passion - not just our job - and we wish to share that excitement and passion with you to aid you in understanding, learning and using your new language.

Stage I - to bring the Pre-Intermediate student to Intermediate level.

Stage II - to progress the Intermediate student to Advanced level.

Topics include Sentence Structure, Tenses, Conditionals, Modal Verbs, Gender, Articles, Prepositions, Clauses, Phrasal Verbs, Conjunctions, Reported Speech, Quantifiers, Idioms and metaphors, comparatives as well as a few unique topics of our own!

Our semesters include a wide exposure to how English is used in the everyday world always relating the students development to how a native speaker has learnt to speak English.  Lessons are never boring where students are taught language as if it's a science, but rather varied, interesting and fun and helping students to understand what language is and how to use it.

Our other shorter programmes for those not able to stay for a semester, offer focused teaching on key areas that the student needs either in business English, English for academic purposes, English for employment or in preparing for the FCE, CAE and IELTS exams.  We're proud to boast an 85% pass rate success so far in these courses.

The Language Centre at University College Cork

The Language Centre at University College Cork offers intensive courses and part time courses in ELT during the academic year, and also has a Summer School from July to mid-September. The courses are open to both students of UCC, and those who wish to take one of the many courses available at the centre. The English language courses are offered in English for general, academic, and professional purposes. Each year hundreds of students prepare for and take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination, or also the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE), Advanced (CAE), or Proficiency (CPE) examinations in our centre.
