Japanese passport holders need to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), if they plan to travel to Canada by air or transit through a Canadian airport. They can apply with a valid passport, a credit or a debit card, and an email address.
If Japanese passport holders plan to travel to Canada by car, train, bus or boat, they don’t need a visa or eTA, but they do need to bring the right travel documents.
The Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate in Nagoya do not accept cash payments in Japanese yen.
Payment forms accepted:
- Credit card (Visa or MasterCard);
- Cash in Canadian dollars; or
- Japanese Postal Money Order (“kawase shousho”) payable to the Embassy of Canada.
Visitor access to the Embassy of Canada requires photo identification.
The Embassy is closed on Saturday, Sunday and certain Canadian and Japanese Statutory Holidays.
