The average processing time for a regular US passport is five to seven business days.
The US Embassy in Bratislava has the ability to issue emergency passports in certain limited circumstances. These passports have very restricted validity and are generally issued only to enable stranded citizens to return home. Persons who need emergency passports should apply during regular working hours and should follow the regular instructions for the type of passport that pertains to them. Certain requirements can be waived for victims of crime, etc. Once approved, the average processing time is 30 minutes. Although emergency passports can sometimes be issued outside of normal business hours, this is usually only authorized in genuine life-or-death situations.
Citizens of the United States traveling to Slovakia must have a valid passport (that does not expire before the end of their visit), but do not require a visa for stays of less than 90 days within a six-month period. Other travelers may apply for a Schengen visa, which allows them to enter Slovakia or another Schengen country and then to travel freely throughout the Schengen zone for a period not to exceed 90 days.
