Generally, a foreign citizen who wishes to enter the Kingdom of Thailand is required to obtain a visa from Royal Thai Embassy. However, Canadian nationals are permitted to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for tourist purposes without a visa and stay there for duration of 30 days. Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category must possess adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand.

If the duration of arrival and departure to Thailand on your confirm return airline ticket is more than 30 days even though you plan to stay in Thailand not more than 30 days, you need to apply for tourist visa. When applying for a visa, the applicant will be issued with a type of visa in accordance to his or her purpose of visit. Travelers who wish to stay longer than such period may apply for extension of stay at offices of the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok.

When applying for a passport applicants must submit their application in person. An appointment is recommended. Minors under 20 years of age require the consent of their parents or legal guardian(s), who must accompany the minor applicant at the passport office. If one of the parents is unable to come, he/she must sign a letter of consent issued by the Thai registration office, which must be presented at the passport office by the other parent.

In case of a lost Thai passport, the person needs to report the incident to the local police immediately before contacting the Thai Embassy or consular representative office. A police report is essential before a new passport or a certificate of identity can be issued. If he/she is visiting Canada temporarily, a certificate of identity will be issued as the travel document. If the person is a student or working in Canada and must remain in the country, The Royal Thai Embassy or The Royal Thai Consulate General will issue a new passport, pending approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
