The Portuguese Embassy in Prague seeks to foster a closer relationship between the Portuguese Republic and Czech Republic as two countries share common values and principles. Its mission is to deepen the relationship between two of us in the areas of arts and culture, economics, politics, and security.

The Portuguese Embassy ensures all co-nationals protection against the violation of their fundamental rights and the limitation or privation of their personal freedom. They also ensure emergency assistance; help in locating family members, inheritance procedures initiated abroad and for the repatriation of mortal remains. The consular services include:

Portuguese nationals should register at the nearest Portuguese Consulate. The Consular Registration is free. If registering by mail, please enclose a self-stamped addressed envelope for Certified mail for the return of the documents.

Applicants for a passport must appear in person at this Consular Section of the Embassy of Portugal. Portuguese passports are issued to Portuguese citizens holding a valid Portuguese Identification or Citizen Card, who are registered at a Portuguese Consulate. If applicant is not registered he/she can be registered when applying for a new passport.

Applicants who do not hold valid ID or Citizen cards must appear at the Consulate to sign and fingerprint ID card requisition forms. In such cases the passport can be requested only after the ID card is received from Portugal.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.

Holders of an EEA (EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Swiss passport do not require a visa. Nationals from EU-countries as well as Switzerland and Liechtenstein may stay for an unlimited time. Holders of Czech Passports (European Union) do not need a visa for Portugal. There are no restrictions on the remaining validity of ones passport, providing the traveler leaves Italy before its expiry date.
