The Embassy acts as Registrar for Polish nationals resident in the Ireland: issues them with identity cards and passports, registers their births, deaths and marriages, enters them on the electoral rolls and organizes polling stations for major national elections, draws up notarial acts and ensures the protection of their rights with regards to the Irish authorities. It is also responsible for issuing visas pursuant to the Schengen Agreement to persons who require them.

Poland is a member state of the Schengen area - a territory with no checks at internal borders formed by 26 States (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland).

These States apply uniform rules concerning entry and short stays in their territories. To enter the Schengen territory third-country nationals must be in possession of a valid travel document and a visa if it is required.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.

Polish citizens should be registered at the Registry of a Polish municipality. Registration permits the exercise of all the rights and duties of a citizen depending on each individual situation. The Polish citizen is obliged to inform his/her municipality, as well as the Consulate, of all registry data changes such as marital status, citizenship, address, etc.
