The New Zealand High Commissioner to South Africa is accredited to Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The Administrative and Consular Section deals with all matters related to passports and judicial affairs and also all administrative matters concerning the High Commission.

If your passport has been lost, stolen or damaged, and you need to travel urgently, a High Commission may be able to issue an Emergency Travel Document.
Only the Department of Internal Affairs passport offices in London, Sydney or New Zealand can issue a passport. A new online passport renewal service is now available. In an emergency, most but not all New Zealand Embassies may be able to issue an Emergency Travel Document. Where postal services are irregular, the Embassy can assist with forwarding passport applications to Wellington. There is a separate fee for this service payable in local currency.
Urgent issue service and Emergency Travel Documents:
An urgent service for the issuing of passports is provided by the Department of Internal Affairs in New Zealand, London and Sydney. Providing there are no problems with your application your application will be processed in approximately 10 working days.
When applying for an urgent service, whilst outside New Zealand, please tick the Urgent 3 day service on the application form (All non-urgent passport applications are sent to NZ for re-issuing). Payment can be made by providing credit card details or a bank draft made out to the Department of Internal Affairs. The High Commission in Pretoria does not accept any cash payments in Rands.
New Zealand representatives overseas can perform certain legal or notarial acts in accordance with the law of New Zealand e.g. the taking of affidavits, affirmations and statutory declarations.
In general the New Zealand High Commission in South Africa has no funds available to assist New Zealanders in financial difficulty. People who wish to return to New Zealand and who are in financial difficulty (for instance, money or travel documents have been stolen) are recommended to contact friends or family who may be able to make travel arrangements on their behalf or assist them financially. Money transfers can be easily and quickly arranged from within South Africa or from New Zealand between banks and by organisations such as Western Union.
Staff at this High Commission is able to witness Affidavits, Affirmations, Statutory Declarations and other documents for use under New Zealand law. The witnessing must take place at the New Zealand High Commission. Please call the High Commission Consular staff to make an appointment for this service:
- Certifying documents as true copies of the original (eg. birth or marriage certificates)
- Issuing consular letters, issuing consular certificates, taking affidavits, affirmations or statutory declarations (document prepared by solicitor or applicant)
- Witnessing signatures on documents for use under NZ law (eg. wills, power of attorney, land transfer deeds)
Immigration New Zealand no longer accepts Visa applications at the New Zealand High Commission in Pretoria. All Visa applications should now be made at the New Zealand Visa Application Centre (VAC).The VAC is approximately five minutes' drive from the New Zealand High Commission and is located at:
