All applicants must apply in person at a Dutch Mission since the Embassy is lawfully required to confirm the identity and take fingerprints. This also applies to children.
Dutch passports currently take approximately two to three weeks to process, provided the application and documents submitted are correct and complete. The process may take considerably longer if further information is required. You are therefore advised to submit your application well before your current passport's expiration date or your intended travel date.
If the applicant's passport is lost, stolen or expired and he/she has no immediate need to travel, please follow the regular passport renewal instructions. When the passport is lost or stolen, it is mandatory to submit the 'Verklaring Vermissing Reisdocument' form.
If the passport is lost, stolen or expired and the applicant has an immediate need to travel (this includes scheduled vacation or a business trips within 10 days) a regular passport cannot be processed on time. In this case an emergency passport or laissez passer could be issued to accommodate the travel. Emergency travel documents are not accepted by all countries. Check with the authorities in your country of residence whether an emergency passport, in combination with your legal status in the country, is sufficient to re-enter. Since an emergency passport always needs to be surrendered after use, please do not have a ‘residence' type visa issued in this document.
Citizens of the United States traveling to Netherlands must have a valid passport (that does not expire before the end of their visit), but do not require a visa for stays of less than 90 days within a six-month period. Other travelers may apply for a Schengen visa, which allows them to enter Belgium or another Schengen country and then to travel freely throughout the Schengen zone for a period not to exceed 90 days.
The Embassy is closed on the following holidays:
- 01/01 - New Year's Day
- 01/21 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
