The Consular Office of the Mexican Embassy provides all the standard consular services, such as assistance to Mexican citizens with travel documents, legal issues, and various emergencies. The Consular Office also offers information and assistance with visas and other travel to Mexico related issues to the Austrian citizens.
In an emergency, the Embassy is within the authority to assist with the following:
- Issue a passport in case one loses it, or if it gets stolen;
- Assist with communication with family members or acquaintances in Mexico;
- Assure that local authorities enforce their rights in case of arrest;
- Provide information on local lawyers who can assist;
- Informing relatives in Mexico on accidents, hospitalizations or arrests,
- In case one need medical assistance: provide information on doctors and hospitals one may use.
Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
