The Malawi Consulate General in Johannesburg is the only Malawian consular Mission in the Republic of South Africa. The office was established to provide consular services to Malawian residents in or visiting South Africa and to promote: trade, investment and tourism between the two countries.

The office also facilitates issuance of Visas to foreign nationals travelling to Malawi. In addition to serving South Africa, the Malawi Consulate General also offers similar services to Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Mauritius under the mandate of the Malawi High Commission in Pretoria which is accredited to these countries.

Requirements for Visa application:

  • The processing period for all visas is a minimum of 7 working days.
  • Applicant must possess a valid passport with enough blank pages not less than 2.
  • Two Passport size Photos.
  • Duly completed application form Number 27.
  • Proof of mode of transport.
  • Invitation letter from host

Requirements for Emergency travel documents:

  • Police Affidavit/ copy of original passport
  • Two passport size photographs (coloured on a white background).
  • R200 processing fees.
  • Applicants to present themselves in person

Requirements for replacement of old passports:

  • Old passport
  • Two passport size photographs (coloured on a white background)
  • Duly filled passport application form in Black ink
  • R750 application fees
  • Applicants to present themselves in person
