The Embassy can assist with the following emergencies:

Citizens and non-citizens of the Republic of Latvia, who have lost their travel document (passport), or it has been stolen or rendered invalid, should appear in the Consular section of the Embassy of Latvia in Czech Republic in order to receive a temporary travel document - a return certificate. This document certifies an identity of the person permanently residing in Latvia and allows him/her to return to Latvia crossing its border single time.
The Return Certificate is a temporary travel document, which assures the identity of a person under jurisdiction of the Republic of Latvia and replaces travel document (passport) issued by the Republic of Latvia. The Return Certificate gives its holder the right to cross the border of the Republic of Latvia one time only, when returning from abroad. The Return Certificate can be received if the person requesting it, while abroad, has lost his/her travel document issued by the Republic of Latvia (passport) or if the document has been stolen or has become invalid for further use. In extreme situations, the Return Certificate can be issued within 24 hours' time. The validity of the Return Certificate is 30 days.
Legalisation of the documents is proceeded within 2 working days from the submission and making the payment of the fee. Fee for document certification - 10 Ls. The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accepts payments for consular services only by means of non-cash payment. Visitors can pay with payment cards ((VISA, VISA Electron, Maestro, Master, American Express) or via credit institutions.
Entry into and residence in Latvia of citizens of the European Union member states, European Economic Area states and the Swiss Confederation (hereinafter - Union citizens), and their family members, is regulated by the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 243 of 29.03.2011 "Procedures for the Entry into and Residence in the Republic of Latvia of Citizens of European Union Member States, European Economic Area States and the Swiss Confederation, and their Family Members" transposing in Latvia Directive 2004/38/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the right of citizens of the Union and their family members to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States.
