The Hungarian Embassy in Ottawa provides a wide range of standard consular services that include:

Since November 27, 2009 the Consulate General of Hungary in Toronto ended its consular activity. Therefore from November 30, 2009 onward the consular duties of the Consulate have been taken over by the Embassy in Ottawa. So clients from the whole territory of the Province of Ontario as well as from Manitoba and Saskatchewan are eligible to file their corresponding applications and requests to this Diplomatic Mission. Consular cases originally filed at the Consulate General in Toronto and yet pending are also attended by the Embassy in Ottawa.

All passport applications need to be submitted in person at the Hungarian Embassy. Canadian residents may also apply at a Hungarian Embassy in the US or at the Hungarian Consulates in Los Angeles or New York.

For the application, one will need to show a valid Hungarian passport, Hungarian ID card, or a Certificate of Hungarian Citizenship. Please note that Hungarian birth certificate cannot be used for the verifying Hungarian citizenship. In case the applicant does not possess any of the three documents, the applicant needs to obtain a Hungarian Citizenship Certificate.

In case of an emergency the traveller may apply for a temporary Hungarian Passport called provisory Passport which can be used for traveling back to Hungary. The temporary provisory passport application can be handled in at a Hungarian Consulate. The provisory passport is issued by the Hungarian Embassy upon receiving the passport application through the office of the Consulate. Upon issuance, the provisory passport is mailed to the applicant.
