The French Embassy in Pretoria is pleased to announce that from 1st March 2013, South African passport holders will no longer be required to obtain a visa to travel to Reunion Island for short stays of up to 90 days. Citizens of South Africa traveling to France must have a valid passport (that does not expire before the end of their visit), but do not require a visa for stays of less than 90 days within a six-month period.
Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
The Embassy and the Consulates are closed on the following holidays:
- 1st of January "The New Year"
- 21st of March "Human Rights Day"
- March/April "Easter Monday" and "Family Day"
- 1st May "Labor Day"
- 15th of August "Assumption"
- 24th of September "Heritage Day"
- 11st November 1914-1918 Armistice
- 16th of December "Day of Reconciliation"
