The primary goal of the Embassy is to enhance the Finnish-Saudi relationship, in every sector and at all levels. Protecting and serving the interests of Finnish citizens is a key priority. The Embassy covers in addition to Saudi Arabia Yemen, Oman and Kuwait.
Traditionally, the most important duty of the Embassy of Finland in Riyadh has been the promotion of economic cooperation between Finland and Saudi Arabia - and it is still important. Together with the Finpro trade delegation that has its office in the premises of the Embassy, the Embassy acts as a mediator in helping Finnish companies gain access to, and participation in the Saudi market.
The Embassy helps Finnish citizens with passport issues and other official documents. Moreover, the Embassy assists Finnish citizens in trouble and offers assistance with legal issues concerning military service, citizenship or notarial services. Furthermore, the Embassy supports other Finnish governmental offices, for example, by organizing elections.
If Finnish passport is lost, stolen or damaged while abroad, Finnish citizen can get an emergency passport to return home or to continue the travel. An emergency passport is issued for the duration of the travel, but no longer than 12 months. An emergency passport is issued by the mission. Finnish citizen must report the loss or theft of the passport to the local police and present the notification at the mission when applying for a replacement passport.
The Embassy of Sweden in Riyadh covers the issuing of visas to Finland through Scandinavian cooperation agreement. Visa applications take at least two weeks.
The following documents are required for a visa to Finland:
- completed visa application
- one passport-size photo
- valid passport (must be valid at least three months after the expiry of the visa)
- original resident card or valid visa (in the country where the application is submitted)
- invitation letter or name and address of the host in Finland, stating the purpose and duration of the trip; or confirmation of the hotel reservation (for business visa; a letter from the company you will work for and an invitation letter from the business contact in Finland)
- proof of airline reservation to and from Finland (e.g. an itinerary from a travel agency) or proof of other transportation arrangements
- valid passenger travel insurance for a minimum coverage of 30 000 Euros. Insurance must cover the whole Schengen territory and must be valid for the whole length of intended stay.
