The Estonian Embassy in Washington is offering consular services to Estonian and foreign citizens. The consular services being provided are accepting applications for Estonian passports and ID cards, issuing Estonian passports and ID cards, and ordering documents from Estonian registries.

Estonian citizens who encounter trouble abroad can call the Foreign Ministry consular department's on-call number (372) 53 01 9999 outside of working hours. The Foreign Ministry on-call secretary is available 24/7 at (372) 6 377 000.

The initial application for an Estonian Citizens' passport should be submitted in person to the Consulate General of Estonia in New York. All applicants are required to give their fingerprints. Children below the age of 6 are not required to give fingerprints. Beginning June 26, 2013 children below the age of 12 will not have to give fingerprints and do not have to appear in person to apply for the passport. All passport applicants must appear in person to pick up their passports at the Consulate General of Estonia in New York, or at the Estonian honorary consulates in Los Angeles, Chicago, Portsmouth, Houston or Seattle.  ID cards are being issued only at the Consulate General in New York. Children below the age of 15 may be represented by their parents.

Citizens of the United States traveling to Estonia must have a valid passport (that does not expire before the end of their visit), but do not require a visa for stays of less than 90 days within a six-month period. Other travelers may apply for a Schengen visa, which allows them to enter Estonia or another Schengen country and then to travel freely throughout the Schengen zone for a period not to exceed 90 days.
