Relations between Estonia and the Czech Republic have been historically good and co-operation close. Soon after Estonia's independence, Czechoslovakia was covered by the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Berlin, and after that by the embassy in Warsaw. The first diplomat to permanently reside in Prague was charge d'affaires Philip Kaljot, who arrived in January 1934. The diplomatic relations that were disrupted between Estonia and Czechoslovakia in March 1939 following the occupation of Czechoslovakia were restored on 9 September 1991. On 1 January 1993, diplomatic relations were automatically transferred to the successor states of Czechoslovakia.

NOTE: Starting from the 1st of January 2012 The Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Prague does not issue visas anymore.

Nationals of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and any third-country national holding a residence permit of a Schengen State do not need a visa to enter Estonia.

The main services provided by the Embassy include:

  • Births, deaths and marriages
  • Passports and emergency travel documents
  • Travel advice
  • Legalisation Service
  • Notarial services, etc.

The Consular Section of the Estonian Embassy in Prague provides consular assistance and services to overseas Estonians, which include citizen registration, identification documents and passport related matters, emergency travel documents, legalization of documents, etc. The Consulate also issues visas to foreign nations who wish to visit Estonia and offers a range of other services and information on Estonia.

Estonian passport and ID-card applicants have to come to the Embassy in person to submit the application, as the Embassy collects fingerprints for the documents. In case of a child under 15 years old, an application for passport is submitted by his/her legal representative - a parent, guardian or authorized representative of guardianship authority, a child older than 15 years can apply for passport on his/her own.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
