Honorary Consulates in Gaborone (Botswana) and Port Louis (Mauritius) provide information on the Czech Republic, further the development of the relations and facilitate contacts between the Czech Republic and the receiving country. They provide basic information about the laws and regulations of the receiving state. The honorary consulates, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria, assist Czech nationals present in the receiving country in cases of need (namely in cases of illness, accident and loss of travel documents or money). When approved by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria the honorary consulates issue emergency travel documents to Czech citizens (in the case of the loss or theft of the passports). The honorary consulates make sure that the applicable international treaties and laws and regulations of the receiving state are respected in relation to Czech nationals who have been arrested, taken in custody or imprisoned. The honorary consulates also authenticate signatures, copies (photocopies) of documents and translations. They may receive from Czech nationals for safekeeping papers and other documents, money, valuables and securities. The honorary consulates do not issue visa for travelling to the Czech Republic.
Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
