The Embassy of the Czech Republic is responsible for developing and maintaining relations between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Latvia. The Consular Section provides services for Czech citizens in Latvia and for foreigners who intend to travel to the Czech Republic. The Commercial Section handles trade and investments matters, helps Czech companies to do business in Latvia and Latvian companies to invest in the Czech Republic.
In connection with the regionalization of the visa sections of the Embassies of the Czech Republic in the countries of the Member States of the Schengen area from January 1, 2010, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga doesn´t issue visas any more. For applicants from Latvia, i.e. non-citizens and third countries´ residents in Latvia, applications for the visa to enter the Czech Republic and application for the long-term and permanent residency in the Czech Republic can be lodged only at visa section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Warsaw. Other consular services of the consular section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga are maintained.
The Consular Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga can provide notarial acts i.e. to attest a signature, to make out (Czech ↔ Latvian) and certify a translation (Czech ↔ Latvian/Russian/English), to authenticate a photocopy. If you require your signature to be legalized, you will have to come in person to our office, show your valid passport and sign in front of the consular officer (or it is possible to recognize own signature on the already signed document). The legalisation of a signature or a photocopy of a document can be proceeded immediately but in this case it is recommended to contact the Consular Section in advance to agree on the date and time.
The Consular Section does not legalize photocopies of passports, identity cards and other identity documents, documents of a technical nature (e.g. geometrical plan, drawings), lottery tickets, cheques, deposit books etc.
Czech citizens are obliged to register births, marriages and deaths that occurred outside the Czech Republic with the Special Register Office in Brno, Czech Republic. This can be done via our Consular Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki, during an appointment. The registration of the above-mentioned events must be done as soon as possible after they occur.
Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.
