One of the key duties of our Embassy is to provide assistance to Croatian citizens who currently reside in the United States, as well as to US citizens who are interested in learning about our beautiful country. I am confident that our new web page will contribute to this goal effectively, and that you will find information on what you are looking for about the Republic of Croatia and the United States. A commitment to common values and ideals is the foundation of good and successful bilateral relations between our two countries. Croatia has not forgotten the assistance it received from the United States in the days when it fought for independence and during its difficult road to freedom and sovereignty. Today, Croatia is returning this gesture of friendship in many areas, especially through its efforts in the global war against terrorism, as a member of a large antiterrorist coalition led by the United States.

Residents of the following US states and overseas territories fall under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Washington:

• Alabama, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia;
• American Samoa, Guam, Howland, Jarvis and Baker Islands, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Midway Islands, Navassa, Palmyra, Wake Island, Micronesia (Federal States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau)

All passport applications should be submitted in person. For 1st time applicants, who have never had a Croatian passport, except the documents listed above, please submit Domovnica (Croatian citizenship certificate) or Rješenje o primitku u državljanstvo (ruling of the Minister of Interior of the Republic of Croatia that you have received Croatian citizenship), Birth certificate (not older than 6 months, legalized with Apostille Seal and translated into Croatian language).

Consular service comprises a consular fee of $137,00 for applicants older than 21 years and $103,00 for younger than 21. Please note we only accept personal checks or money orders (payable to Embassy of Croatia).

US citizens do not need a visa to enter and stay in Croatia for up to 90 days for visit or tourism purposes. Should a US citizen wish to work, attend school or reside in the Republic of Croatia for whatever reason for more than 90 days, he or she must apply for first temporary residence.
