The Consular Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa provides consular assistance and services to overseas Chinese citizens, which include citizen registration, identification documents and passport related matters, emergency travel documents, legalization of documents, etc. The Consulate also issues visas to foreign nations who wish to visit China and offers a range of other services and information on China.

Types of application that needs to be submitted in person:

  • Diplomatic, Service, Courtesy visa, and Hong Kong/Macao visa/entry permit

  • Notarization and authentication

The payment for consular services should be done by money order, company's check or debit card. Cash, credit card or personal check will not be accepted.

When applying for a visa one should note the following:

  • The visa application form should be filled out truly, clearly and completely on a computer, and should be printed out for submission. Any false or incomplete information given in the application form may result in delayed processing or even the refusal of a visa.
  • Visa officers decide the period of validity, number of entries and duration of each stay according to the relevant Chinese laws and regulations.
  • Holders of diplomatic, service (official) passport and applicants applying for Hong Kong/Macao visa/entry permit submit their applications directly to the Chinese Embassy. Visa applications other than those mentioned above should be submitted to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC).
