As of December 11, 2013, Afghan citizens between the ages of 14 and 79 must give their biometrics (fingerprints and photographs) when submitting an application for a visitor visa, study permit or work permit.
In addition to providing the regular application forms, all citizens of Afghanistan are required to complete and submit the Afghanistan Questionnaire.
The Visa Section of the High Commission of Canada to Pakistan is responsible for processing applications for temporary resident visas, study and work permits for Afghan nationals and other foreign nationals that have been legally admitted in Afghanistan for over one year. The Embassy of Canada in Afghanistan does not accept applications for temporary resident visas, study and work permits, nor can answer any visa or immigration related inquiries.
Applications for temporary resident visas, study and work permits must be submitted through a Visa Application Center (VAC) or online.
Citizens of Afghanistan are encouraged to apply in person at a VAC. By submitting an application through a VAC, the applicant will be able to take advantage of the extended hours of service, online tracking of his/her application, collection of biometrics at the time of the application and the assurance that his/her application is complete and all the proper documentation is included.
All visitors are subject to thorough personal search and vehicle inspection, in order to ensure the safety and security of Embassy employees and visitors. It is therefore recommended that visitors avoid carrying a large number of items, mobile phones and electronic devices with them when visiting as it may delay the security screening process. All personal items and electronics will also have to be stored prior to them accessing the Embassy.
The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
