Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria provides consular assistance and consular services to Bulgarian citizens and legal entities abroad, as well as to citizens of the EU Member States that have no diplomatic missions in the host country, in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Bulgaria, the international treaties to which Bulgaria is a party, and the laws of the host country.

Consular services provided by the Embassy:

  • Issuance of passports;
  • Issuance of civil status documents;
  • Legalization of documents;
  • Notarial services;
  • Issuance of visas;
  • Issuance of identity cards;
  • Issuance of driver's license;
  • Issuance of temporary travel documents;
  • Assistance to Bulgarian citizens in cases of emergency;
  • Dealing with citizenship matters.  

In case Bulgarian citizen loses his/her passport abroad, Bulgarian Embassy may issue a temporary travel document which is valid for one year.

Citizens of Switzerland do not need visas to visit Bulgaria for a period of stay up to 90 days, so they can travel to Bulgaria only with their national ID-card or with their passport. It should be noted that the travel document needs to be valid for at least 3 months after the end of the intended stay in Bulgaria.
