Nowadays Bulgaria and Spain are Member States of one and the same political and economic community - the European Union, partners in the same military defense alliance - NATO; there is obvious similarity in the positions of the two countries on major issues of the European agenda. This further increases the stability of the bilateral relations, creating opportunities for deepening them in all fields as well as for the development of the contacts between people and for mutual cultural understanding.

• Issuance of temporary travel documents;
• Issuance of civil status documents;
• Legalization of documents;
• Notarial services;
• Assistance to Bulgarian citizens in cases of emergency;
• Dealing with citizenship matters.

Since 1 January 2007 the Republic of Bulgaria has been applying the European Union's Common Visa Policy, subject to the terms of the Accession Treaty. Citizens of Spain do not need a visa to visit Bulgaria.
