The Consulate General of Brazil in Washington issues visas for residents of the states under its jurisdiction, as follows: District of Columbia, North Carolina, Delaware, Kentucky, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and all Military Bases, except Guam. If applying by mail, the applicant must present proof of residence (copy of driver's license, utility bill, bank statement or lease contract) when applying through a third party and/or for visas which require living within our jurisdiction.

Applications made in person - minimum 10 business days.

NOTE: There is no need for a visa if the traveler arrives in Brazil on a flight, remains in the international transit area, without passing through immigration control, and departs on another flight from the same airport.

The Consulate only accepts payments by USPS MONEY ORDERS and in the exact amount of the service requested. All money orders must be made to "Consulate-General of Brazil" and must contain the name and address of the client. Cash, personal or company checks, certified checks, bank or personal money orders, and credit or debit card charges ARE NOT accepted.

In compliance with an order from the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States, the Consulate will only accept money orders containing the bearer's name and address, according to the sample below. The field "memo" on the left must be filled with the name of the service that is being requested (visa, legalization, etc.).The same rule will apply to services sent by mail or through visa services and expeditors. Money orders that do not meet the new requirements will be returned with the documents that were submitted and the service will not be processed.
