Our course includes a minimum of observed eight hours practice teaching in three different teaching environments: One on one, small group, and Thai government school classroom teaching. We have a maximum enrollment number of six students in each TEFL course.
The major areas of focus are:
- Teaching methodology and techniques. Classroom strategies, identifying objectives. Lesson planning activities and methods.
- An introduction to Asian and specifically Thai-people, culture, language and specific teaching-learning problems you might encounter.
- How to correct English grammar: a thorough teacher-friendly review, aimed at correcting typical learner errors by practicing conversation interactively and dynamically.
- A review of teaching books and resources, how to use them effectively in accordance with specific course requirements, and how to use them for efficient lesson planning.
- A look at specialized language teaching (ESP): children and younger learners, business English and writing, academic English, vocational training (hotels, tour guides, banks, airline/aviation and technical English), and more.
- Alternative teaching methods: Games and activities, post-grad reviews and teacher development.
- Course design and curriculum development.
- Maximum in-class teaching practice and critique.
- The real world of institutionalized teaching. How to schedule your teaching times and be most effective. Time management, part and full-time options, etc. Visa and work-permits, teacher licensing and pro-active job placement.
- And, very importantly: Teaching Practice in a 'live' classroom with real students, monitored and evaluated outside of class learning hours.
Teaching Practice:
Your 'practice teaching' period will be carried out under close supervision by our trainers, who will help you in case you need it. You will start with one-on-one teaching, followed by teaching small groups of English learners, and in the end teach a class of teenagers or children. As a result of these practical experiences you will be exposed to the different challenges and pleasures of teaching the various ages and skill levels.

The 4 - week TEFL course in Phuket, Thailand provides participants with an Internationally recognized certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The course has a very practical emphasis and features a high proportion of actual teaching practice hours in the classroom. The course is externally validated and moderated by the BOAA (Board of Academic Advisors). Teachers are assessed on their understanding and practical application of the course content through teaching practice and the compilation of a teaching journal. These two are assessed separately but the final grade awarded amalgamates both sets of grades with a slight weighting towards teaching practice.
