IH Riviera Maya:
IH Riviera Maya provides CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) courses in the centre of Playa del Carmen, just south of Cancún in the north-east of Quintana Roo, on Mexico's idyllic Caribbean coast. The CELTA course provides you with the basic skills and knowledge necessary for a career in TEFL / TESOL is run in collaboration with IH Barcelona, one of Europe's leading training centres for English language teachers.
IH Riviera Maya was opened in 2004, as a joint project between IH Barcelona and IH Mexico City. The school has become an important centre for teacher training, language teaching, study tours and related activities in Mexico. IH Riviera Maya is also an official centre for Cambridge ESOL and IELTS exams.
The school consists of two adjoining buildings: A colonial style house with a domed roof and terrace at the front which houses the reception, two large student apartments; and a new, purpose-built building at the back that contains the teachers' room, the study room, the internet access room, offices, the classrooms and two more student apartments.

At IH Riviera Maya, the tutors are approved by Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). IH Riviera Maya is a member of the IH World Organization. We are also part of the VIVA Group, providing quality Spanish courses in great destinations.
The CELTA is a common requirement for those entering the field of ELT (English language teaching). It is recognised internationally, and is a popular credential among people who wish to travel and teach English around the world. However, it is also held by people who intend to teach only in the country where they trained, and do not intend to travel.
Success in the CELTA course has enabled many candidates to obtain their first teaching position: The course is highly regarded by employers as providing sound initial training and a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English.

IH Riviera Maya arranges accommodation to suit your needs (and pocket) in one of four different categories of accommodation - Mexican host families, apartments (either shared, or for your exclusive use), hotels and our purpose-built student residence. Your accommodation is normally provided from the Sunday before your course begins to the Saturday morning after the course ends.

Playa del Carmen is a marvellous place to spend time. It has all the advantages of a Mexican Caribbean resort - a dazzling, white-sand beach, turquoise sea, a huge range of bars, restaurants and places to stay - and yet it has managed to retain a relaxed, low-rise village atmosphere which has nothing in common with the large-scale tourist resorts elsewhere on the coast. There is plenty to do and see in Playa and the town is growing fast. But the atmosphere is anything other than hectic and it is the gentle surf that seems to dominate the pace of life.
Playa del Carmen has a sub-tropical climate, which means it's almost always warm. The annual average temperature is about 27C or 80F.
