CELTA - Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults:
The CELTA TEFL course is the most recognised initial TEFL teacher training course in the world and the International House Dublin CELTA TEFL course is the only CELTA course in Ireland which has been approved by the Irish Department of Education Advisory Council for English Language Schools (ACELS). Successful candidates who hold first degrees are also eligible for an ACELS certificate at the end of the course. Each CELTA TEFL course run at IH Dublin is externally moderated by a University of Cambridge ESOL assessor. This guarantees a constant high standard and consistency of course content, trainers and facilities.
Core Elements of the CELTA Course: The CELTA course at IH Dublin is focused primarily around learning from the practical experience of preparing lessons and teaching them, followed by reflective consideration and evaluation that will inform future lessons. For this reason, the core element of the CELTA is Teaching Practice. The other main elements are:

DELTA - Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults:
If you have substantial experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages, and are ready to progress your career, you need the DELTA. The qualification is ideal if you wish to extend your professional experience and accept new responsibilities as it not only demonstrates a commitment to the profession, but is also proof of your ability.
* Module One: Background to teaching and learning ESOL in a range of contexts.
Assessment: Written examination (externally assessed).
* Module Two: Principles and professional practice of teaching ESOL in a range of contexts.
Assessment: Five assessed assignments incorporating background essays and observed teaching (one assessed externally).
* Module Three: Chosen ELT specialism (eg Teaching Young Learners, English for Special Purposes).
Assessment: An extended assignment of 4,000-4,500 words (externally assessed).
Course content:
- 120 contact hours
- 10 hours’ observed teaching (informally and formally assessed with one externally assessed lesson)
- 10 hours’ observation of experienced teachers
- At least 150 hours’ reading, research and assignment writing
- Individual and group tutorials
