University of Cambridge 120 hour CELTA course:
Full-time, 4 week intensive course
The Cambridge University ESOL CELTA Certificate is an introductory TEFL course in teaching English for candidates who have little or no previous English Language teaching experience.
CELTA is an ELT (English Language Teaching) certificate, which encompasses TESL (i.e. Teaching English as Second Language) and TEFL (i.e. Teaching English as Foreign Language). It is the most widely recognised and respected international TEFL certificate in teaching English offered in Italy and across the globe.
The CELTA course (The Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is a practical, hands-on teaching qualification, and provides candidates with a mix of hands-on teaching experience, teaching methodology and practical classroom techniques.
Modules / Units of Learning:
- Language analysis and awareness
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism.
- Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Learners and teachers, and the teachingand learning context
- Planning and resources for different contexts
Assessment:
To be awarded the certificate you must pass both written assignment and teaching practice components. There are three grades — Pass, Pass ‘B’ and Pass ‘A’. The assessment of CELTA is continuous and integrated, there is no final exam. The candidates are assessed primarily in the areas of:
- Teaching practice (each assessed lesson is given a grade)
- Written assignments
CELTA Certificate Award:
The CELTA certificate is awarded to candidates who satisfy all assessment criteria and complete all course requirements. These include:
- Attendance of 100% of the course
- Completion of all teaching practice and observations of experienced teachers
- Completion of all four assignments (three or more assessed as ‘Pass’)
- The grades of the certificate are Pass, Pass B (above standard teaching) or Pass A (exceptional language awareness, teaching and professionalism).
- Candidates who successfully complete the course, receive both the Cambridge CELTA certificate and a report/letter from the trainers at the Centre in Milan.
