Established in 1983, Nab Cottage is an English language school and community in the centre of the Lake District National Park, an area of outstanding beauty and tranquillity in Cumbria in north-west England. It is unique as an English language school because students and teachers live together and study together. We take a maximum of 20 students in the school at any time and there is continuous interaction in English. Our students are all adults and come from all over the world. The average stay is about 3 weeks, though some people stay for up to 3 months.

Qualified & Experienced Teachers:
Our teachers are well qualified and experienced and bring a wide range of complementary skills including art, drama, coaching and mentoring. We use a holistic model of learning, encouraging students to behave, think, dream and relax in English.

We teach English at 4 levels, from basic conversation to advanced. We assess your speaking and listening ability in a relaxed and informal way when you arrive and you will be placed in the group that best suits your level. During the afternoon, evening and at weekends there is a programme of activities designed to activate language in a natural and motivating way.

Beautiful location in the Lake District National Park:

The school is in the centre of the beautiful Lake District National Park, overlooking a small lake and surrounded by mountains. There are many wonderful walks from the cottage including waterfalls, caves, valleys, mountains and rivers. Windermere, the largest lake in England, is just 3km away. The Lake District is a very special place and it is currently being considered for World Heritage status. The region is very popular with British tourists so there are many facilities in the villages, including cinemas, shops, bars, clubs, boating, tennis, fitness centres and leisure spas.

Our school is less than 2 hours by car from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds / Bradford, Blackpool and Newcastle airports. Our area is also easily accessible from the airports by train or bus.
