Seattle Area German American School (SAGA): The Seattle Area German American School (SAGA) opened in 2006 by a group of parents who share a vision of a full German language and cultural immersion education for children in Greater Seattle. We offer preschool (30 months - 5 years), kindergarten, first, second, and third Grade programs. Our daily instruction focuses on building each child's intellect, gross and fine motor skills, emotional and social skills, as well as providing them with many projects to develop creative problem-solving and artistic talents. SAGA alumni successfully integrate into both American and German-speaking countries‟ primary education systems.
Preschool Curriculum: The SAGA School offers Preschool (children 30 months - 5 years old) programs Monday - Friday from 9:30a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Families may build their preschool schedule on convenient days (2, 3, 4, or 5 days) based on space availability. Our experience has shown that children enrolled in at least 3 days a week have greater success with language acquisition.
Kindergarten Curriculum: The Kindergarten curriculum is primarily German in focus. We have found that kindergarten children are particularly savvy in pointing out the differences between English letter sounds and German letter sounds. This happens frequently when the children are learning the letter sounds as well as learning to read in German. Often a child pronounces the letter "E" or "J" for example with the English pronunciation. Our teacher uses these instances as "teachable moments" where knowledge of both English and German language skills is reinforced.
First Grade Curriculum: Our first grade program runs the same schedule as the full time kindergarteners. Of course, there are different tasks in math, reading and writing and there are additional mandatory tasks during free play time.
Second Grade Curriculum: We lay the foundation for future success in school, providing our students with language and subject content skills transferable to other international or mainstream American public or private school programs.
Third Grade Curriculum: Older children benefit by taking on the role of mentors and practicing leadership skills while boosting their self-esteem and confidence. Cognitive skills are equally improved through the opportunity to reinforce, consolidate, and expand upon knowledge shared with younger children.
