Trinity Preparatory Academy, Keller, TX:
As a College-Style School®, Trinity Prep is a private, classical, Christian K-12 school designed to complement the student’s at-home studies. Students attend one of our two-day Core Programs, either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Fridays are reserved for additional enrichment and various elective courses. On the remaining weekdays, students study at home with their parents.
We offer a core curricula, with classes in World and U.S. History, Language Arts (Literature, Writing, Grammar), Math, and Science. In middle and high school, all math and science classes are aligned with national standards. The humanities classes include the content outlined in the Texas state standards for English and other humanities classes (TEKS or STAAR). In Grammar School, Art and P.E. are included in the school day.
The advantages of the university-style schedule are many: students can have class experiences without being tied to an all-day, five-days-per-week schedule; tuition costs are much lower than for full-time schools; parents receive teaching support from qualified teachers; students have accountability to teachers but flexibility in their schedule, with three days/week of at-home studying.
Because of our small class sizes, our policy of partnering with parents, and our dedicated teachers, we are able to welcome students who need adaptations from the 'traditional' classroom environment. Our students include traditional learners, those who have learning challenges, and those who are considered 'gifted and talented.' We have a wide variety and want to maintain that broad spectrum in our learning community. And, because we are partnering with parents who have the student at home three days of the week, it is easy for the parent to make accommodations or modifications as needed to their student's workload or study material. For those who need extra help with academic modifications, we do have an Education Specialist on staff (additional tuition applies for these services).
Students, parents, and teachers commit to emulating Christ in their conduct, their conversation, and their efforts. Students sign a Code of Conduct that delineates our expectations for classroom behavior, and are expected to abide by it. Parents are provided a Parent Partnership Statement that outlines our expectations for completion of homework assignments necessary to profitable group discussion and interactive learning. We are partners in educating our and your children, and clearly defined expectations are foundational to success in this venture.
Our average class size is 12 students. The Humanities classes (World History and English) rely heavily upon discussion, with the students preparing by reading, researching, and writing outside of class. Science is lab-based and includes individual projects. Math classes are a combination of lecture over concepts and in-class time devoted to working problems.
