This Piazza, 200 years ago, was the ancient Roman Forum of the city and still today is considered the heart of the city with its open market, its wine bars, cafés and restaurants. A melting pot of modern life and ancient culture, a place where to sit down in relax enjoying the Italian lifestyle with a glass of Amarone or a good espresso coffe in your hands!
At the centre of the Verona sits the extraordinary Roman Amphitheatre called Arena (1st Century a.C.), once the site of great battles and spectacles and now home to the world-famous open-air opera and rock concerts held there during the summer months where you can see everything from Carmen to Radiohead.
A few kilometres from Verona sits Lake Garda, Italy’s largest and deepest lake. Lake Garda’s wonderfully temperate climate and typically Mediterranean flora have long made it the preferred playground of locals and the savoured summer destination of tourists from around the world. Sightseeing, windsurfing, kaitboarding, hiking, or just having a "lazy day" chilling out on the shore and taking a swim... this is a typical summer weekend in Verona.
Verona surrounding areas are well known for their excellent wine productions:
The most important wine regions around Verona are:
Valpolicella, producing red wine
Bardolino, producing red wine
Soave, producing dry white wine
Amarone is a special type of wine, produced by using dried grapes of the Valpolicella area.
Head just minutes outside of town and you'll be amidst the Veneto wine country. There are plenty of winieries to taste and buy wine at. Purchase wines at cantinas along the country side for cheaper deals than within the city.
