Michael Phelps Swim School, Baltimore:
Michael Phelps Swim School is a Baltimore based, learn-to-swim program, for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Swim classes include personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, personal growth, and rescue skills. In 2009, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps returned to Baltimore, with Coach Bob Bowman, and began to invest in his dream, to grow the sport of swimming and get more children and adults in the water. In the fall of 2009, Michael began to make his dream a reality, teaming up with North Baltimore Swim School (NBSS) to launch Michael Phelps Swim School and offer world-class swimming instruction.

Our Program:

Photo of Learn to Swim in Baltimore, MDOur program has been carefully constructed over 30 years! It was originally launched under the name North Baltimore Swim School (NBSS) in the early 1980’s. Cathy Bennett (then Lears), with degrees in child psychology and early childhood education, developed a program that focused on building comfort, confidence and a feeling for the water in each child. A young Michael Phelps was one of the first students!

Our Philosophy:
We believe that swim instruction is based on the motor skills of swimming (kicking, stroking, and rhythmic breathing). In addition, and more importantly, we feel that our swimmers need to mentally understand the properties of water; the how's and why's. We feel it is paramount to develop the whole person mentally and physically. Understanding the properties of water helps the swimmer with the readiness to swim.

Our staff is what makes our program successful. We put a high priority on hiring the best and brightest employees, who consistently demonstrate enthusiasm for working with children and adults.

GPAC Swim School, Greater Philadelphia & South Jersey
Courses / Programs
Established in 2009, The Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club (GPAC) Swim School provides group swim classes and private lessons to young children (ages 4+) from the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey area. Our swim classes are held at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, NJ. Our aim is to help young children of all swimming abilities to become more familiar around water and more proficient with their swimming skills.

Our swim lessons are offered in a group format and we keep our class sizes small with no more than four swimmers per instructor. We also offer private, 1-on-1, lessons. Classes at each level will also include safety lessons to go along with the swimming instruction. The safety of your child is paramount to us. This is why all of our instructors are required to be certified in lifesaving and CPR/First Aid.
- Group swim classes for kids (ages 4+) at beginners, intermediate & advanced levels. All group classes are offered in 6 week sessions and classes are run once per week for the duration of the session. Each lesson will last 25 minutes.
