About Us:

Photo of Japanese Classes in Chicago ILEstablished in 1930, the Japan America Society of Chicago is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan, nonpolitical association that "fosters understanding between our two cultures, to cultivate personal friendship between our two people."

The Society promotes dialogue, social interaction, cooperation and friendship among its members by serving as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on economic, political, business and cultural affairs that inform and shape U.S.- Japan bilateral relations in world affairs.

Our Classes:
All courses are taught by an experienced native instructor of the Japanese language. Instruction is provided at each level, one evening weekly, 5:30-7:30 pm in the conference room of the Japan America Society of Chicago.

Japanese Courses for Adults:

Each level of Japanese is tailored to the level of expertise and type of study required by students. Weekly lessons provide students with an opportunity to begin the study of Japanese or to sharpen previously acquired skills. All courses are taught by an experienced native instructor of the Japanese language. Course levels include:

- Beginning Japanese Level I
- Beginning Japanese Level II
- Beginning Japanese Level III
- Beginning Japanese Level IV
- Intermediate Japanese Level I
- Conversational Japanese
- Advanced Japanese
- English Classes for Japanese

How do I know which level I should take?
The Society does not offer exams to test students language ability. We recommend that you register for the class that best suits your needs with the flexibility to move levels the following week if needed.

• Learn Japanese with ABC Languages in Menlo Park! College of Humanities Undergraduate Programs: Japanese studies at San Francisco State University offer studies in three main areas - language, literature and culture, as well as in translation, interpretation and specialized courses for business applications. The BA degree curriculum satisfies the single subject requirement in Japanese for the California teaching credential. The MA Program is divided into two areas of concentration: Teaching of Japanese as a Foreign Language, and Professional Applications of Japanese Language. Many students enter the Japanese program with definite career goals - teaching, translation, business, and research in diverse academic fields. There are a number of opportunities for study in Japan. Through the CSU International program, selected students may study at Waseda University in Tokyo during their junior year. Scholarships are granted by a local organization and by the Ministry of Education in Japan. Through a University Exchange program, the Japanese program selects students to study at Oita University in Kyushu under a scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education.
