Our Goals:

Ensure student's success - Provide the services and environment every student needs for intellectual challenge and social and emotional development. Teachers will facilitate comprehension and expression skills beginning with oral and progressing to written language. Each student should be able to communicate effectively, obtain and use information to solve problems and engage in active, lifelong learning.

Interaction and Cooperation - Promote children's social skills for diverse adult and peer relations, including listening, turn-taking, following directions, rules and routines, group participation, care for shared materials and conflict resolution.e

Programmes:

Nursery Class ( 2 - 3 years old); Pre-Kindergarten Jr. Class (2 -4 years old); Pre-Kindergarten Class (2.6 -4.6 years old); Kinder A Class (4 - 5 years old); Kinder B Class (5 - 6 years old). We also offer after school and Saturday classes for kindergarten and elementary school students. Programs are taught in English.

Japanese Culture:

While children are taught in English our curriculum incorporates a wide range of learning experiences that provide exposure to various cultures. Children engage in a variety of activities that bring out strong points of both Western and Japanese cultures such as performing Kamishibai like "Momotaro" and "Kachi-kachi Yama" as well as giving speeches and performances to develop the confidence necessary to speak and act in front of others.

Activities:

Music, dance, computer and gym classes are included in our broad curriculum giving every child the opportunity to experience activities that will make a difference in their lives in the future.

Ookayama International School (OIS) in Tokyo, Japan offers an alternative to the larger international schools in Tokyo. The school offers distance learning programs for grades 7-12 (ages 12 - 18) and students must attend our school to participate in them. We provide a fully accredited American high school education which has helped numerous students go on to higher education in Japan and overseas. Distance learning allows for many unique opportunities not available in the more traditional school system.

Students are enrolled on distance learning programs at North Dakota Center for Distance Education or at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Independent Study High School. These programs are fully accredited through the North Central Association Commission and School Improvement (NCACASI) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). There are well over 200 different courses available for study.

Students may enroll at any time during the year, and if need be, set an individual pace for their work. Courses are also available for part-time students and those who have taken a break from education. Older students can take classes outside normal school hours.

New Hope International Preschool in Tokyo, Japan is an affordable, quality Christian preschool and kindergarten. School hours are from 10:00 to 2:30, Monday through Friday. Some of our graduates enter elementary school in the spring (Japanese schools), while others enter in the fall (international schools).

Rather than having a fixed beginning and ending of the school-year, we use three terms. Orientation is held at the beginning of each term (April, January, and September). Graduation ceremonies are in March for children who will enter elementary school in the spring, and at the end of June for children who will enter elementary school in the fall.
