Aim:

Photo of Italian Language School in RomeOur aim is to encourage language skills through the use of communicative tasks, and focus on a fun and relaxed atmosphere for learning, thereby creating and maintaining motivated students. We also want to promote intercultural exchange along with our students’ communication skills.

Teaching Approach:
Our teaching approach is based on understanding our students’ needs and their individual learning styles. Studying (and teaching) a language in its own country is quite different from studying (and teaching) it abroad. Scudit Scuola d’Italiano goes to great lengths to make use of the opportunities of studying Italian in Italy and ties in teaching with the integration of students into Italian life and customs.

English is studied because it is the standard language of international communication. Italian, on the other hand, whether it is studied for tourism, business or just for general interest in Italian culture, is always studied with the aim of integration into the Italian "way of life". Thus it is essential that the teaching of the language informs the students of the attitudes, interests and knowledge of the Italians.

Furthermore Italian is not normally a student’s second language; it is his or her third, fourth or even fifth language. Consequently our teaching methods take into account that our students are often very sophisticated in their language abilities and cultural interests.

Great stress is therefore laid on the spoken language (unless there is a specific request for an in depth study of written Italian). We concentrate mainly on getting the students to speak, and less importance is given to comprehension, because, as they are staying in Italy, the latter automatically develops outside lesson time in their everyday life. We continually assess the needs and difficulties of individual students and we obtain excellent results thanks to our highly motivated, experienced and talented team of teachers.

Tolomei Cultural Institute, Florence
Courses / Programs
Located to the northeast of Florence in Settignano in northern Italy, the Tolomei Cultural Institute uses the city of Florence and its surrounding territory as a grand “laboratory” for language learning. Systematic reflection on the language and its structure is inserted into exciting communicative situations of discovery, suggested by the enormous literary and artistic patrimony of the city of Florence, which may well be considered the cradle of Italian culture. The language is considered as an instrument for communicating tradition, as a way of experiencing the world around us (culture, food, fashion, sport, etc.), and as a means for expressing beauty (literature, theatre, painting, architecture, music, etc.).

The method is based on a direct relationship between the student and teacher, whose aim is to provide each participant with the knowledge necessary for acquiring the language. The starting point of each lesson will be a real life communicative situation. Thanks to the historic and artistic setting of the surrounding territory, the language may be learned in conjunction with the discovery of the world of Florence.
