Ciao! We will be your teachers during your stay in Modena, and we would like to give you some insight into our qualifications, experience, and above all our enthusiasm. Since receiving our university degrees, we have specialized in the teaching of Italian as a foreign language, and some of us have taught Italian abroad. Our work gives us great pleasure as it is an opportunity to meet and interact with many people of different nationalities and is a source of constant enrichment on cultural, professional and personal level.
Romanica's courses - organized according to the methods for the teaching of foreign languages set out by the Council of Europe - are the fruits of our labours, both as individuals and as a team.
Because we ourselves have been foreign language students, we are particulary suited to addressing your needs and your difficulties, and we understand the importance of support and encouragement. We consider your interests and your motives for choosing to study Italian to be fondamental to our task. We are always available to respond to your needs and we do our best to work with you in achieving your educational goals.
Romanica organizes a programme for your free time which is included as part of your course and parallels with the language study in its content. You will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities that will allow you to feel at home in the city and help you to get to know our culture and our history.
Excursions, concerts, traditional and local festivals, visits to museums and other cultural venues, plays, conferences and receptions organized by the school and open to all. This is the best way to meet new friends and improve your Italian while enjoying yourself.
You will spend an unusual afternoon experiencing the rituals of making vinegar, or on a farm observing the phases of production of parmigiano cheese, or in Maranello, discreetly spying on the Ferrari test course or in its factory workshops. You will have the chance to visit painting exhibitions, explore the studios of a private television company, sing along with «Rossini», one of the most ancient Italy’s chorals, or simply to sip an aperitif and sit with friends inhaling the intoxicating smells of the delicious dishes of Modena’s celebrated cuisine. Modena is a place to experience, above all at the dinner table!
You can gain even more from your Italian studies by following our seminars on: songs, arts, literature, history, pronunciation and phonetics, cinema, wine...
Upon your arrival you will receive the program of the complementary activities which will keep you busy for 6-8 additional hours each week. Romanica’s secretary will be at your disposal to inform you where you can find the most characteristic and entertaining haunts as well as the imminent cultural events taking place in the city and in the region of Emilia Romagna.
After lessons the school remains open giving you access to the library which houses books, newspapers and periodicals containing interesting artistic and cultural publications on Italy, and a collection over 200 videotapes. In addition, the school offers access to the internet, a fax service, a linguistic laboratory, a refreshment area and a music corner.

A historic university town, Modena is located in Emilia-Romagna, a north-central region of Italy stretching over a fertile plane and flanking the Apennine Mountains. With its 200,000 inhabitants, it is both tranquil and lively, a place where modernity and tradition meet and engage comfortably with one another.
You can explore Modena by having a passeggiata under the porticos overarching its sidewalks or bicycling along the roads following the ancient canals. The cobblestone streets of the historic center and the buildings’ amber shades give you the opportunity to relive the medieval town still filled by the echoes of the court of the Estense family. Modena is home to the twelfth-century Romanesque Cathedral declared by Unesco to be among the five hundred masterpieces of the world. Finally, it’s central geographic location allows you to reach the major cities as well as the smaller, lesser-known towns of Italy quite easily.
